We are independent of any political ideology or economic interest. IHRO founders are group of Somali national professionals and community members working on human rights protection & peace promotion.
The organization was established on 1st November, 1999, in response to the wide spread of human rights violations in Somalia, particularly Southwest State and Banadir.
The Initial stages of IHRO intervention started on human rights education to assist the society understanding their rights, so the awareness raising resulted to break silence of tradition taboo such as hiding gender based violence; the society encouraged to share human rights violation cases to the IHRO, and it contributed to the status reports on human rights in Somalia, which was annually Somali human rights consolidation report by a group of ten local NGOs (G10) and shared to the UNHCHR sessions.
